A collaboration with Global Trauma Research (GTR) was formed to create the Trauma Center at HCC, providing general counseling services, for people suffering from psychological trauma.
The objective of the center is to provide culturally competent trauma informed services (research, counseling, support and education) to underserved minority populations in New York City. Services are available in English, Haitian-Creole, and Spanish. |
Individual Counseling and Assessment Services
We will help you determine if you or someone you know are eligible for services, but some common reasons for referral include: - Diagnosis of an illness - Death of a loved one - Accident - Sexual, Physical, & Verbal Abuse - Past War/ Political Violence - Past Natural Disaster Experience 2010 Haiti Earthquake The center is ready and equipped to provide special and on going counseling to people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. |

Mental Health Disparities We are committed to working with community leaders, especially those in the Caribbean population, including: pastors, priests, rabbis, medical providers, social service workers, educators, and even family matriarchs to meet the needs of people who are not ready for one-on-one therapy. Objectives: 1. Challenge stigmatized mental health ideologies. 2. Learn basic trauma assessment & intervention skills. 3. Learn when & how to refer.
