A collaboration with Global Trauma Research (GTR) was formed to create the Trauma Center at HCC, providing general counseling services, for people suffering from psychological trauma.

The objective of the center is to provide culturally competent trauma informed services (research, counseling, support and education) to underserved minority populations in New York City. Services are available in English, Haitian-Creole, and Spanish.

Individual Counseling and Assessment Services

We will help you determine if you or someone you know are eligible for services, but some common reasons for referral include:
- Diagnosis of an illness
- Death of a loved one
- Accident

Training and Outreach

Mental Health Disparities
We are committed to working with community leaders, especially those in the Caribbean population, including: pastors, priests, rabbis, medical providers, social service workers,

educators, and even family matriarchs to meet the needs of people who are not ready for one-on-one therapy.

Objectives:
1. Challenge stigmatized mental health ideologies. 2. Learn basic trauma assessment & intervention skills. 3. Learn when & how to refer.

Please contact us If you would like a trauma training conducted at your:

HCC is a Trauma-Informed Organization.

In 2015 HCC – from its executive members to social service providers – is now a Trauma-Informed Agency via intense training and ongoing partnership with GTR. Using Bronfenbrenner’s (2005) bioecological model, we look at the individual’s entire community/system when it comes to intervention. Our partnership provides a unique strength to serving survivors of trauma. Specifically, we are interested in community engagement and outreach to reduce the stigma of counseling, as well as providing a platform for continuous support in order to encourage long-term support and sustainability, with the goal and intent of keeping families stronger, for longer periods of time.

About GTR:

The mission of GTR Inc. is to help support people around the world affected by psychological trauma. GTR hopes to help people create a secure and maintainable lifestyle by means of education, counseling, support, and integration of spirituality in health practices.
GTR believes in developing and implementing comprehensive services, and therefore researches innovative techniques.
