Meeting the Healthy People 2020 Goal

FITBK aims to educate residents on healthy eating and simple diet modification within their cultural contexts; engage residents to lose weight and gain better weight management; reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases in residents; and improve residents' overall health and well-being.

In December 2010, the Department of Health and Human Services launched Healthy People 2020, which has four overarching goals:

  • Attain high-quality, longer lives free of preventable disease, disability, injury, and premature death;

  • Achieve health equity, eliminate disparities, and improve the health of all groups;

  • Create social and physical environments that promote good health for all; and

  • Promote quality of life, healthy development, and healthy behaviors across all life stages.

We are proud to take part in the Healthy People 2020 initiative by bringing FITBK to the central Brooklyn community. Right now, HCC is working to bring even more fitness classes to more Brooklyn residents by expanding services.
