HCC’s MOBILE HEALTH UNIT

With a strong emphasis on community outreach and a specific focus on at-risk and vulnerable populations, including undocumented immigrants, HCC’s mobile health unit was developed to make rapid HIV testing services accessible, quick and convenient to residents all throughout Brooklyn. This includes Flatbush, East Flatbush, Bedford-Stuyvesant, Crown Heights, Flatlands and Brownsville. Staffed by a dedicated and supportive team of outreach workers and counselors, our mobile unit engagement averages 1,000 guests every month.

More than half of those living in Brooklyn are struggling to survive on a day to day basis, facing discrimination, isolation and homelessness. In keeping with our mission, HCC’s outreach team provides continuous social support services, condom distribution, housing assistance, help with finding a doctor, or linkage to treatment if you've been affected by HIV/AIDS, STDs, mental illness, or any health disparities that may impact someone's way of living. Our diverse team is responding to this need by getting disenfranchised people into care.

We currently have a comprehensive network of resources and partnerships for referral to hospitals, clinics, shelters, treatment programs, mental health providers, SROs, and the criminal justice system, and social services.

CONDOM & SAFER SEX MATERIAL DISTRIBUTION

As part of our commitment to raising awareness about sexual health and HIV/STI prevention, and encouraging LGBTQ community members to practice safer sex, HCC’s community outreach team distributes condom, other safer sex materials and information free of charge in a variety of settings and contexts (including bars, clubs, barbershops, gyms, restaurants, bodegas and local community centers). All safer sex materials are also available during walk-in hours at our office at 3807 Church Avenue (bet. E.38th & E. 39th St.) in Brooklyn.

Our outreach team also regularly performs this service at special events, community festivals, health fairs, block parties, and Pride events.

From time to time we receive requests from groups or individuals who are hosting special events and would like to offer condoms and/or safer sex kits to their guests and attendees.
