COMMUNITY COALITION

Founded in 1982, the Haitian-American Community Coalition (HCC) is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit community-based service provider (and originally a network coordinator of eight Haitian community centers in the New York Metropolitan Area) that help U.S. Haitian immigrants gain self-sufficiency.  While our primary focus is Caribbean immigrants and African-Americans, our doors are open to all people who are facing hardships, and are experiencing racial, economic and social injustices, especially within communities of color. 

 

Over the last 3 decade, HCC has quickly grown to be a leading organization providing access to free resources, direct care, preventative and supportive services to a large Caribbean population including underserved and vulnerable low-income immigrants, seniors, formerly homeless, and people with chronic illnesses) who seek help in the areas of stable housing, benefits, food security and direct care. Most of these individuals and families under our care are beween the ages of 14-75.

In 2018 -2019, HCC served approximately 18,000 individuals through supportive housing, targeted prevention and supportive services, fitness education (via the FITBK and FITQB initiatives), health and wellness education, access to nutrition, case management, domestic violence services, mental health services (via BeWell, our Article 31 mental health clinic), substance abuse counseling, community mobilization, immigration services, and client advocacy for individuals impacted by HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses.

98% of our clients and tenants have cultural history and heritage from the Caribbean and Latin American countries including Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, Dominican Republic, Cuba, the Virgin Islands and Belize. The funds will be used in the areas where we provide direct services in neighborhoods where they live, work, play and worship.

 

HCC’s social media engagement has increased by 120% reaching nearly 1,000,000 individuals annually globally. Our social and community outreach covers a broad range of topics including disease prevention, fitness, health education, access to basic benefits and housing. We are proud to provide our services in English, French, Spanish, and Haitian-Creole through our native speaking staff. 

A 38-year service history has established us as a spokes organization and information source on Haitian communities within the U.S. and Haiti for Federal, State, and City agencies, hospitals, universities, public schools, and research groups.
