September 2026: Community Updates
Dear Friends,
This month, our community paused to recognize meaningful moments of transition. Labor Day, the unofficial close of summer, offered an opportunity to honor the dedication of workers everywhere. It reminded us of the dignity of service and the power of collective effort to build stronger neighborhoods. From lively gatherings to quiet moments at home, many enjoyed a well-deserved day of rest and reflection.
September also marked the start of a new academic year, filling our streets and homes with excitement and anticipation. Children carried fresh backpacks, families settled into new routines, and schools buzzed with the promise of learning and friendship.
6th Annual Senior Fall Concert
A highlight of the month was Congresswoman Farah Louis’ 6th Annual Senior Fall Concert, which brought seniors from across the district together for an afternoon of music, laughter, and fellowship. HCC was proud to join the celebration alongside staff and clients. Local performers filled the hall with joyful melodies, while our team welcomed attendees, offered assistance, and helped everyone feel included. Seniors shared stories, danced, and celebrated the bonds that unite us—a heartwarming reminder that every season brings new opportunities for joy and connection.

As September draws to a close, we look to October with renewed excitement and purpose. The coming month will bring new programs, fresh opportunities to serve, and more ways to grow together. Whether you are welcoming the cooler weather or savoring summer’s final warmth, we invite you to embrace all that the next chapter holds.
With gratitude and solidarity, The HCC Team

Mayor Mamdani launched the Commission on Government Efficiency (COGE) to make government faster and more efficient by listening to New Yorkers and responding to their needs directly.
The blueprint set by COGE shows how government at any level can begin to build back trust by making government faster and more accessible.
Input from across NYC:
After hosting 10 hearings with participation from more than 1,200 New Yorkers from all five boroughs who came with feedback, frustrations, and ideas about improving government, the Commission is launching “Vote on Faster Government,” a public education campaign that will inform New Yorkers about the five ballot proposals that will appear on the November ballot.
New Yorkers can register to vote and learn about props 1-5 on their ballots this November by visiting nyc.gov/fast.
The 5 props:
Save small businesses time and money by making it easier to open outdoor dining and build accessible ramps
Speed up City contracting so small businesses and nonprofits can deliver services more quickly
Fast-track street safety projects
Simplify construction permitting to speed up housing
Set a target for the City’s rainy day savings to strengthen our fiscal stability
